HuNI

Task

Humanities Networked Infrastructure (HuNI) is a national Virtual Laboratory project developed as part of the Australian government’s NeCTAR (National e-Research Collaboration Tools and Resources) program. HuNI combines information from 30 of Australia’s most significant cultural datasets.
My task on the project was to design, build and test an interface to facilitate the search, sort, curation and ‘social linking’ of records.

My Role

HuNI was a two year project led by Deakin University’s Professor Deb Verhoeven. The project team comprised Project Managers, Semantic Lead, and Developers.

I was contracted as UI/UX and Visual Designer to facilitate the engagement and participation of the user community and visually interpret the features and functions of the virtual lab. HuNI brings together 30 national datasets and as such, there were many stakeholders keen to ensure that their data was presented correctly and inline with the objectives of their own organisations. Working with the Project Director, Semantic Lead and Web Developers, I balanced the interests of all user groups and product owners with the technical scope of the project.
 
During the final phase of the project I was embedded with project developers, Strategic Data. We worked collaboratively in an agile manner to roll out, iterate and address design and technical issues as they emerged.
